One thing I find very interesting, as a learner of German, is Isolde's usage of du when speaking to Kakania. In German, there are three main second person pronouns: du, ihr and Sie. The first two are mainly used in informal and casual settings or when talking to people you're close with (with du being singular and ihr being plural sorta similar to english's y'all) while Sie is used in more formal situations (or situations which require some form of formality) such as talking to strangers, customer service or when you're talking to a doctor/patient. Kakania abides by this and uses Sie when talking to Isolde (such as in her speech at the end of chapter 6) but interestingly, Isolde doesn't reciprocate this and instead uses du when conversing with Kakania in German.
This is super fascinating to me because it implies different levels of closeness within their relationship. Isolde's usage of du implies a level of closeness and intimacy to Kakania as Isolde herself saw Kakania as a close friend (most likely due to the fact that Kakania was once of the few people in Vienna who actually sympathized with her and saw her as a human being) but Kakania's siezen suggests a certain level of estrangement or distance between her and Isolde. Of course. this could just be her maintaining her professionalism as doctors normally use Sie when talking to patients but with how things turned out after chapters 6 and 7, I'd like to think this goes deeper than just formality standards.
#n talks about shit#reverse 1999#isolde#kakania#this is especially depressing when you consider the fact that kakania most likely can't work as a psychiatrist anymore#due to her severe trauma and somewhat outdated treatment methods#in a normal situation she most likely wouldn't have to use Sie with Isolde anymore#but ironically the very same events which lead to that were ones that grew the distance between her and isolde even further#estranging them permanently#leading them unable to interact with each other ever again out of a need for personal safety#the siezen will thus always remain a constant for kakania just like her estrangement with isolde#perhaps one day she'll be able to duzen isolde but fate (bluepoch) is a cruel mistress#if there are any other german r99 speakers then do correct me if i'm wrong because my german isn't that good#i also apologize for any mischaracterization i may have made in this post or the tags#so if there are any isokania brainrot havers out there then feel free to correct me because it's been a while since i've seen chapter 6#might delete idk

I was today years old when I realized that if you take over the interrogation of Zorru and calm him down, promising that you won't let Lae'zel hurt him, you actually get a juicy +5 approval from her. Because even though she hates your interference and treating the locals with kiddy gloves, she sees results -- Zorru is now actually willing to help and answer questions. So, she gives you credit where it's due - and if you don't push the issue trying to lecture her on being kinder, you are pretty much golden.
That brought me back to the thoughts about how awesome Lae'zel is. She doesn't just cooperate with you to survive: she treats you as an equal, i.e. giving you an opportunity to assert yourself and stand your ground.
She doesn't hold it against you -- even though you are supposedly a lower creature from an inferior world, softened up by the privilege of not dealing with the ghaik threat.
From the githyanki POV, you owe them everything - a) because you're weak and wouldn't last a hypothetical hour in the Astral Plane b) because they are the only reason mindflayers haven't consumed your world yet and they need whatever resources you have more than you do.
So, technically the right thing for her to do would be to resort to violence in order to remind you the order of things. Any other githyanki would have done so immediately. Even Kith'rak Voss, despite his rebellion against Vlaakith, has no issues with taking you out on the spot. I don't think he was just pretending to avoid attracting suspicion from Vlaakith -- caring for githyanki people and wanting to remove the pretender doesn't necessarily include being nicer to outsiders.
But Lae'zel? Lae'zel respects you when you don't back down not to her, not to anyone else.
She respects you to the point she relies on you in her worst moments: like during the ceremorphosis scare, when she can't trust her own mind, torn between clear instructions and mad hope.
Action, not reaction.
#baldur's gate 3#bg3#bg3 lae'zel#lae'zel#i can relate to githyanki due to their history#so i don't find their treatment of outsiders all that surprising#you spend generations fighting an evil race that had enslaved your people#destroyed your homeworld#and changed your entire gene pool#you stop caring about what those who have never experienced this crap have to say about you and your methods#so lae'zel is a much better person than me#but let's be honest you can't be better than lae'zel okay

by the way, while self care is likely to help some symptoms of mental illness, this doesn’t mean mental illness is the result of lack of self care.
and self care can only do so much.
self care can’t remove trauma.
self care can’t remove bad situations/treatment.
self care can’t change your brain.
you can learn self worth, and you can learn to challenge cognitive distortions. but no matter how you cope, if the situation is bad then it is bad.
i mean lots of things can change your brain and i ain’t a neurologist. but my point is that some things run deeper than that.
what works for someone whose mental health struggles isn’t disabling might not work for someone whose mental health is disabling.
some things take years and years to undo. and some things require specialist treatment.
what i’m trying to say is, sometimes these people tell me to:
drink water,
take a deep breath,
be confident,
fake it till i make it,
just love myself more,
or told that i will ‘Settle In Eventually’
while for someone whose mental health is not disabling, coping == treatment, because coping = prevents it worsening = mentally healthy.
but for someone who is disabled by mental illness, coping =/= treatment, because coping = alleviates some symptoms = still mentally ill.

was anybody gonna tell me that 13.5% of people with celiac disease report extreme weakness/tiredness that doesn't improve with treatment or was i just supposed to read that in the celiac canada survey myself
#personal#aaaaaargh!!!!!#possible cause for mystery fatigue episodes: the chronic illness ive been diagnosed with for almost a decade#filled with rage every time i remember my chronic illness affects my life tbh#it's supposed to be treatable!!! but then oops turns out lots of people have no improvement in some of their symptoms#and the only treatment causes 1 billion social & quality of life problems#and like diagnostic methods are very conclusive but most of the symtoms are vague and nonspecific#so good luck figuring out if your ongoing symptoms are celiac-related or if you also have something else#furious. tbqh. fucking bastard of a disease

The main problem with a lot of typical Persona series complaints is they aren't wrong per se, but you can tell the person making it likes the *idea* of what Persona could be rather than how it's been executed for twenty-five years running
#🔫#“Persona would be good if it was good” has a lot of method but also it seems maybe you just don't like Persona that much#i see excitement about a director change as if P2 didn't have some of the exact same character treatment and dynamics of P3#i know this is unpopular but w/e#i am not defending Atlus as a company at all just thinking my thoughts and getting them out there#*merit instead of method

Bobby with commitment issues because he’s afraid that one day he’ll just drop dead and doesn’t want to put someone through that.
#Bobby Moch needs a hug#I can’t imagine the doctors really thought he’d live long given how seriously ill he’d been and how many complications he had#I really like angst if you couldn’t tell#it’s the 1930s their treatment methods weren’t exactly the same as they are now#also medical paranoia is a totally valid and common thing#the boys in the boat#bobby moch#boys in the boat#boys n boats#someone write this please 🙏#botched appendectomy

I'm so glad you enjoy my art and that it's helped you in dark times. Your tags are always so nice, and I appreciate your support and kindness so much. #I don't feel like I'm the best person to handle situations like this and I'm absolutely not qualified#and I have to protect my own mental health with triggering things#but I do wanna say that therapy has helped me immensely this past year#not everything is magically fixed but it's helped me a lot#if it's at all a possibility in your situation maybe it can help you as it's helped me#and try out different therapists and treatment methods if needed (coming from experience)#i feel a little awkward posting/answering this one because it feels so personal#so just tell me and I'll delete it no questions asked

anybody got a nice meaty literary essay or monograph to read about the impossibility of describing ordinary physical pain? currently thinking about how rn i have a "sore throat" but it's neither scratchy nor hard to swallow so like what is going on there and is it treatable. or like very often i am "nauseous" but my motion sickness nausea is so entirely distinct from my gastroparesis nausea which is so different from my postnasal drip nausea which is different yet again to my constipation nausea (real) etc etc but also i didn't know how different they were until i had experienced all of them really often really close together. and still i have no good words to explain any of the differences to medical professionals or to anybody else
#like... is sontag illness as metaphor the thing? i don't think it is tbh#like societal treatment of cancer seems so far from what is going on with me at the level of these ordinary everyday complaints#mostly i don't need medical attention for any of this or i cope with the existing methods of treatment#but surely i would've gotten better treatment sooner for eg the gastroparesis if i could've said something clearer than 'nausea'#well i mean nausea's one that i know nobody knows what it is so maybe not#whereas a sore throat... we ain't at strep levels but we ain't unaware of it either#rare pic of me in the wild

My brother has been treating my insistence that my hair is actually supposed to be curly but instead is just frizzy thanks to my refusal to learn how to treat it properly like absolute delusion, until tonight when the stars aligned and I did things right and he instantly accused me of secretly getting a fucking perm.
#i'm just not willing to go through the first stage of the curly girl method#where your hair just looks like shit for weeks before it adjusts to the new correct treatment#and i also don't have a diffuser for my hairdryer so

diet culture and fatphobia is a plague on our society, but for the love of god STOP making fun of people for displaying obvious disordered eating patterns
#im sorry but i think about that 'this stopped so many eating disorder' post and i see red lmao#i KNOW that person meant in a lighthearted manner but it still pisses me the fuck off#there's so many people who've said it better than me#but. society's treatment of people with eds is fucking awful#you have to be skin and bones and in a hospital bed for people to take you seriously#until that point people treat any obvious signs of an ed as vanity#which. its fucking not!!!#even if someone's ed started from typical dieting and 'wanting to look good'#once its an ed its not a vanity thing!#it becomes a form of self harm. a method of control. a type of self-flagellation#no matter how the person acts its jot truly about vanity#and even if it was--someone hurting themselves like that to 'look better' is a fucking issue!!#use your fucking brains!!!! jesus#mickey.txt

Nothing will ever be funnier to me than Kaeya's enticing method of bringing his workaholic dear Wrio to bed, courtesy of me launching this at @daybreakrising
What people expect Kaeya to be like: ''oh, you're still awake...? is that why you haven't come to bed? oh, that's understandable. i can make you something warm to touch that sleepy spot, and i'll stroke your hair until you fall asleep ♥'' What Kaeya, also a workaholic, is REALLY like: APPEARING IN THE DOORSTEP LIKE A JAPANESE GHOST. ''I KNEW YOU WERE STILL AWAKE WORKING. YOU FOOL. YOU ABSOLUTE BUFFOON. I'LL END YOU''
#from another realm ━ (ooc)#as a workaholic himself he KNOWS that the only working method is just FROGSPLASHING him into unconsciousness#he also expects the same treatment if you're this lucky to be caught overworking

hi story time I have a lazy eye, which means that one of my eyes is REALLY BAD and just kinda turns off sometimes (aka its a lot weaker than my other eye and cant stay open as long, also means that sometimes if I'm overstimulated I can only have one eye open at a time)
so this eye will just kinda wander when it gets tired but currently the best method to get it to stop (and prevent permanent or long lasting damage to my eyes) is to close the bad eye so it can go sleepy sleep.
SO LONG STORY SHORT to stop myself from majorly fucking up my eyes I have to make this face
#I got it looked at (ba dum tiss) a long time ago so im not in danger of losing my vision in that eye any time soon dont worry#I have glasses but I looked it up and apparently the other treatment method is an eyepatch which would have been so cool#ill just have to wait for it to get worse lmao#then I can have my dope ass eyepatch#both of my lenses are perscription tho since my only good eye is also bad its just less bad#eggs can speak#tw scopophobia#?#I feel like this needs a warning I just cant figure out what#tw sans#another funny skill of mine is that I can easily roll with a lack of depth perception#aka ive had to live Like That for a while so if I get something in my eye im mostly good#at the very least on bad eye days I can get around my house fine#its a lot of muscle memory lol#like I cant see it but I know x is this far from y yknow?

Good news is might have found a few good options for a new therapist that actually accept my insurance finally :D
#it's really difficult to find them#not many places accept the insurance I use#and I also need a therapist that does therapy for trauma#and one who works with teens since I'm 17#and preferably one who can work with dissociative disorders and personality disorders#bc I'm diagnosed with a dissociative disorder and my psych suspects me to have bpd and possibly npd#so what I need in a therapist is really specific#and my last couple of therapist were not great bc they were not trauma specific therapists#and a lot of their advice and treatment methods were not at all helpful#so I'm really picky and wary of possible new therapists
