One thing I find very interesting, as a learner of German, is Isolde's usage of du when speaking to Kakania. In German, there are three main second person pronouns: du, ihr and Sie. The first two are mainly used in informal and casual settings or when talking to people you're close with (with du being singular and ihr being plural sorta similar to english's y'all) while Sie is used in more formal situations (or situations which require some form of formality) such as talking to strangers, customer service or when you're talking to a doctor/patient. Kakania abides by this and uses Sie when talking to Isolde (such as in her speech at the end of chapter 6) but interestingly, Isolde doesn't reciprocate this and instead uses du when conversing with Kakania in German.
This is super fascinating to me because it implies different levels of closeness within their relationship. Isolde's usage of du implies a level of closeness and intimacy to Kakania as Isolde herself saw Kakania as a close friend (most likely due to the fact that Kakania was once of the few people in Vienna who actually sympathized with her and saw her as a human being) but Kakania's siezen suggests a certain level of estrangement or distance between her and Isolde. Of course. this could just be her maintaining her professionalism as doctors normally use Sie when talking to patients but with how things turned out after chapters 6 and 7, I'd like to think this goes deeper than just formality standards.

I was today years old when I realized that if you take over the interrogation of Zorru and calm him down, promising that you won't let Lae'zel hurt him, you actually get a juicy +5 approval from her. Because even though she hates your interference and treating the locals with kiddy gloves, she sees results -- Zorru is now actually willing to help and answer questions. So, she gives you credit where it's due - and if you don't push the issue trying to lecture her on being kinder, you are pretty much golden.
Tumblr media
That brought me back to the thoughts about how awesome Lae'zel is. She doesn't just cooperate with you to survive: she treats you as an equal, i.e. giving you an opportunity to assert yourself and stand your ground.
She doesn't hold it against you -- even though you are supposedly a lower creature from an inferior world, softened up by the privilege of not dealing with the ghaik threat.
From the githyanki POV, you owe them everything - a) because you're weak and wouldn't last a hypothetical hour in the Astral Plane b) because they are the only reason mindflayers haven't consumed your world yet and they need whatever resources you have more than you do.
So, technically the right thing for her to do would be to resort to violence in order to remind you the order of things. Any other githyanki would have done so immediately. Even Kith'rak Voss, despite his rebellion against Vlaakith, has no issues with taking you out on the spot. I don't think he was just pretending to avoid attracting suspicion from Vlaakith -- caring for githyanki people and wanting to remove the pretender doesn't necessarily include being nicer to outsiders.
But Lae'zel? Lae'zel respects you when you don't back down not to her, not to anyone else.
She respects you to the point she relies on you in her worst moments: like during the ceremorphosis scare, when she can't trust her own mind, torn between clear instructions and mad hope.
Action, not reaction.

by the way, while self care is likely to help some symptoms of mental illness, this doesn’t mean mental illness is the result of lack of self care.
and self care can only do so much.
self care can’t remove trauma.
self care can’t remove bad situations/treatment.
self care can’t change your brain.
you can learn self worth, and you can learn to challenge cognitive distortions. but no matter how you cope, if the situation is bad then it is bad.
i mean lots of things can change your brain and i ain’t a neurologist. but my point is that some things run deeper than that.
what works for someone whose mental health struggles isn’t disabling might not work for someone whose mental health is disabling.
some things take years and years to undo. and some things require specialist treatment.
what i’m trying to say is, sometimes these people tell me to:
drink water,
take a deep breath,
be confident,
fake it till i make it,
just love myself more,
or told that i will ‘Settle In Eventually’
while for someone whose mental health is not disabling, coping == treatment, because coping = prevents it worsening = mentally healthy.
but for someone who is disabled by mental illness, coping =/= treatment, because coping = alleviates some symptoms = still mentally ill.

The main problem with a lot of typical Persona series complaints is they aren't wrong per se, but you can tell the person making it likes the *idea* of what Persona could be rather than how it's been executed for twenty-five years running

anybody got a nice meaty literary essay or monograph to read about the impossibility of describing ordinary physical pain? currently thinking about how rn i have a "sore throat" but it's neither scratchy nor hard to swallow so like what is going on there and is it treatable. or like very often i am "nauseous" but my motion sickness nausea is so entirely distinct from my gastroparesis nausea which is so different from my postnasal drip nausea which is different yet again to my constipation nausea (real) etc etc but also i didn't know how different they were until i had experienced all of them really often really close together. and still i have no good words to explain any of the differences to medical professionals or to anybody else

My brother has been treating my insistence that my hair is actually supposed to be curly but instead is just frizzy thanks to my refusal to learn how to treat it properly like absolute delusion, until tonight when the stars aligned and I did things right and he instantly accused me of secretly getting a fucking perm.

Nothing will ever be funnier to me than Kaeya's enticing method of bringing his workaholic dear Wrio to bed, courtesy of me launching this at @daybreakrising
What people expect Kaeya to be like: ''oh, you're still awake...? is that why you haven't come to bed? oh, that's understandable. i can make you something warm to touch that sleepy spot, and i'll stroke your hair until you fall asleep ♥'' What Kaeya, also a workaholic, is REALLY like: APPEARING IN THE DOORSTEP LIKE A JAPANESE GHOST. ''I KNEW YOU WERE STILL AWAKE WORKING. YOU FOOL. YOU ABSOLUTE BUFFOON. I'LL END YOU''

hi story time I have a lazy eye, which means that one of my eyes is REALLY BAD and just kinda turns off sometimes (aka its a lot weaker than my other eye and cant stay open as long, also means that sometimes if I'm overstimulated I can only have one eye open at a time)
so this eye will just kinda wander when it gets tired but currently the best method to get it to stop (and prevent permanent or long lasting damage to my eyes) is to close the bad eye so it can go sleepy sleep.
SO LONG STORY SHORT to stop myself from majorly fucking up my eyes I have to make this face
